Evidence Based Practice An Important Aspect Of Many...
Evidence-based practice is an important aspect of many professions, especially ones based in science. Psychologists base their work on the science of psychology and follow a code of ethics, part of that code is competence. The practices used by psychologists need to be based on scientific research that has been peer reviewed. This helps the psychologists avoid making mistakes by using practices that could be harmful or that do not work. Identifying and assessing evidence-based practices before you implement them is very important (USDHHS). It is easy to find sources on the internet, but not all of those sources are valid. First, you should come up with relevant questions that you want the research to answer and outcomes you want to reach. Second, you want to make sure the people conducting the research are credible and that their scientific methods adhere to the standards of your profession. Third, the research must be relevant to your needs and based on theories that the c ommunity accepts. In my career as I daycare provider and preschool teacher I will need to use evidence-based practices for literacy, screening, and inclusion of special needs children. Literacy is one of the most important and sometimes difficult part of education. Many children have no interest in reading and others struggle. Both of these groups of children are often pushed aside so teachers can focus on the children that do not give them a hard time. These children need more attention,Show MoreRelatedThe Status of EBP in the PA Profession1419 Words à |à 6 Pagesthe PA Profession Introduction The entire health industry is highly commercial and the face of the industry has changed and so has the requirements. Satire In Catch 22 Essay Example For Students
Satire In Catch 22 Essay America has been involved in the cold war for years. The fear of communism is ruining lives. The country moves closer and closer to the Korean war. Joseph Hellers Catch 22 is published. 1963- College students are seen wearing army fatigues with Yossarian name tags. Reports are being made about a Heller Cult. Bumper stickers are manufactured which read, Better Yossarian then Rotarian. The phrase Catch 22 has surfaced meaning a no win situation it is now an excepted word in the English dictionary. Such a dramatic change in opinion from the earlier, Pro-war society, it is obvious that Catch 22 had some impact on the anti-war movement of the 1960s-1970s. Not to say the book was the one reason the movement started, It was certainly a catalyst. A protest novel, Hellers story portrays the absurdity of bureaucracy, the stupidity of war, and the power they both have to crush the human spirit. Heller uses a war zone setting, to satirise society at large. He compares the commanding officers to Incompetent businessmen. Dont mumble, and mumble sir when you do, and dont interrupt, and say sir when you do. Desiring promotion over every thing else, Colonel Cathcart keeps raising the number of missions the men of his squadron must fly. Even though the army says they need fly only forty, a bureaucratic trap called Catch 22 says they cant go home at forty because they must obey their commanding officers. Much like the work place, the men are forced to go through endless amounts of red tape, which hardly gets them anywhere. Yossarian tries to pretend he is crazy to get out of fighting. He signs Washington Irving on letters he censors, and walks around naked for a couple of days. If someone is crazy he needs only ask and he can be dismissed from duty. Yet, one would be crazy to fly, and only a sane person would ask to stop, Yossarian is therefore not crazy and is ordered to continue flying his missions. Heller also demonstrates the effect war has on ones mind. All of the pilots are coping (except Yossarian) with the war in different waysThe daredevil pilot, McWatt, loves to buzz his friend Yossarians tent. Mess officer Milo Minderbender turns his job into an international black-market food syndicate. Lead Bombardier Havermeyer Zeros in on targets, no matter how much anti-aircraft peppers his plane. Yet the most crazy are the people in charge. A feud between two generals makes picture-perfect placement of bombs more important then actually hitting a target. The general in command is a recluse who orders his aide to let people in to see him only when he is out. The use of comparison is throughout the book, furthering the theme of military ignorance. Besides businessmen, the commanding officers act like insane gods, while Yossarian, is a sort of reluctant Achilles. No matter what the officers throw at him, he keeps on living. He is paranoid that his luck will someday run out. To drive home his ideas, Heller employs satire. He uses humour to convey situations which are utterly horrible, allowing Heller to poke fun at authority. . The reader cant help but be amused at the fact that Yossarians parachute was taken from him in exchange for a share in Milos franchise. Perhaps the most important aspect of the book, is the idea, that individuality is more important then dying for ones country. A second ago you were stepping into college with your lungs full of fresh air. Today you are an old man. Youre inches away from death every time you go on a mission. How much older can you be at your age? A half minute before you were stepping into high school, .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .postImageUrl , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:hover , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:visited , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:active { border:0!important; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:active , .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64 .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0ab770aa711c00b621261febe77afc64:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The city of spain Essay. only a fifth of a second before that you were a small kid with a ten week summer vacation that lasted a hundred years and still ended to soon. Zip! They go rocketing by so fast. How the hell else are you ever going to slow down? Yossarian does not believe in what he is fighting for, he thinks its all crazy, There is no point of him fighting, he doesnt have a problem with anybody. This book questions the individual duties a person has to their country. Should they die for their country, or should they question the authority? Is something right, just because everybody says it is? By asking these questions, Mr. Heller was able to appeal to the youth of that day who were asking just the same questions. People were able to rally around his book, because they all could relate to what they were reading. Not to say everyone was a WW-II bombardier, They all were having the same thoughts on war. Mr. Heller uses a perfect blend of realism and totally unreal situations to create his crazy world, a symbol of the absurdity of modern bureaucracy. This novel is a far cry from earlier novels about WW-II, usually heroic with realistic language, just concentrating on the actual fighting. This book is not about heroism. It is about the preservation of individuality. Something that is now important to all of us.

Conjugation of French Verb Entrer (to Enter)
Conjugation of French Verb Entrer (to Enter) The French verbà entrer means to enter and its a very useful word to know. As you use French in more conversations or travel to French-speaking regions, youll find forms ofà entrerà everywhere. Just like with all verbs, when we want to say entered or entering, the verb needs to be conjugated. A short lesson will demonstrate how to do that. Conjugating the French Verbà Entrer Entrerà is not only a very common verb, it also follows a very common verb conjugation pattern. This is aà regular -ER verbà and it shares the same infinitive endings with similar verbs likeà enseignerà (to teach),à existerà (to exist), and many others. As with all French verb conjugations, begin by identifying the verb stem:à entr-. We can then add a new ending to match the present, future, or imperfect past tense with the appropriate subject pronoun. For instance, I enter is jentre and we will enter is nous entrerons. The easiest way to memorize all these verb forms is to practice them in context. Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities in everyday life to utilizeà entrer. Subject Present Future Imperfect j' entre entrerai entrais tu entres entreras entrais il entre entrera entrait nous entrons entrerons entrions vous entrez entrerez entriez ils entrent entreront entraient The Present Participle ofà Entrer Theà present participleà ofà entrerà isà entrant. Not only is it a verb, you can also use it as an adjective, gerund, or noun in some circumstances. The Past Participle and Passà © Composà © To express the past tense entered, you can use either the imperfect forms or theà passà © composà ©. Forming the latter is quite simple and you might find it the easier option of the two. To construct it, begin by conjugating theà auxiliary verbà à ªtreà according to the sentences subject pronoun. Then, add theà past participleà entrà ©. As an example, I entered becomes je suis entrà © and we entered is nous sommes entrà ©. More Simpleà Entrerà Conjugations Should you find that the action of entering is subjective or uncertain, use the subjunctive verb mood. Similarly, the conditional verb mood implies that entering will only occur if something else happens. The possibility of needing the passà © simple or the imperfect subjunctive is low. Thats because these are primarily reserved for writing. Yet, knowing them will help your reading comprehension. Subject Subjunctive Conditional Passà © Simple Imperfect Subjunctive j' entre entrerais entrai entrasse tu entres entrerais entras entrasses il entre entrerait entra entrà ¢t nous entrions entrerions entrà ¢mes entrassions vous entriez entreriez entrà ¢tes entrassiez ils entrent entreraient entrà ¨rent entrassent Forming short, direct commands or requests is very easy with the imperative verb form. When using this, the subject pronoun is not required, so tu entre can be entre. Imperative (tu) entre (nous) entrons (vous) entrez

(30 points) There was a situation during my practicum experience where a day shift nurse was running over at 7.30 pm consequent to a patient experiencing a seizure 30 minutes prior. The day shift nurse could therefore not hand off all her patients as she was behind schedule. When the nurse supervisor was called, the night nurse stated that the situation would cause her to start her shift late and that it was unfair to her. According to Berkenstadt et al. (2008, p.159), the outgoing nurse must inform incoming nurse in regards to "Patient status and care, treatment and service, and any recent or anticipated changes in the condition of the patient". Conversely, bedside shift reports have become the conventional technique of handing off as it increases levels of patient satisfaction (Wakefield, Ragan, Brandt, and Tregnago, 2012). The fact that the night shift complained of unfairness is proof that she was not inclined towards bedside report hand off as an option as dictated by scholarly literature. A research aimed at establishing effective ways for hand offs cited by Philibert (2009, p.261) showed that "Frequent and time-constrained hand offs may frustrate the aims of the duty hour limits". This finding validates the night shift nurses concern that her shift would be affected. In terms of

Visual and Cultural Theory Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Visual and Cultural Theory - Essay Example This essay analyses and determines the main ideas and historical and cultural contexts of the prologue of McLuhanââ¬â¢s The Gutenberg Galaxy, while using studio practices to explain McLuhanââ¬â¢s key ideas. Two secondary materials are also used to explore McLuhanââ¬â¢s text, Morrisonââ¬â¢s (2001) article, ââ¬Å"The Place of Marshall McLuhan in the Learning of His Timeâ⬠and Scannellââ¬â¢s (2007) book, Media and Communication. The main ideas of McLuhanââ¬â¢s (1995) The Gutenberg Galaxy emphasise the importance of the medium as the message, while Morrison (2001) asserts the role of technology in expanding human functions. Scannell (2007) supports the cultural transitions that occurred, using McLuhanââ¬â¢s idea of a ââ¬Å"global villageâ⬠(p.135). McLuhan describes the effects of transitioning from an oral to a writing society wherein he argues that literacy expands important human functions, but with limitations, and that the electronic age has produced the retribalisation of human society, and these ideas have a connection to the transition from soundless to sound films, where the latter films exhibit both opportunities and limitations for expressing and extending human thoughts and practices. McLuhan (1995) criticises the devaluation of oral societies, including their oral practices. His text responds to the historical underestimation of the value of oral practices and the vitality of oral societies. He cites the work of Albert B. Lord, The Singer of Tales, who continued the work of Milman Parry. Parry hypothesised that his Homeric studies could prove that oral and written poetry did not share similar patterns and uses (McLuhan, 1995, p.90). Parryââ¬â¢s work had been initially snubbed by the academe because of the prevailing belief that literacy is the basis of civilisation. Morrison (2001) describes the difficulties of Parry in getting his study approved in Berkeley during the 1920s. See Appendix A for research notes on the primary and secondary texts used. The Berkeley faculty represents the general belief that literacy and civilisation are directly related: The notion that high literacy is the normative state of language and civilization, and that its only alternative is the fallen state of illiteracy, and hence darkness and ignorance, seems to occupy the vital center of humanistic studies with remarkable energy and intensity. (Morrison 2001, para.6). The key idea is that by assuming that literacy is the most important sign of civilisation, it automatically discriminates against studies on oral practices and societies that would suggest otherwise. McLuhan responds to the historical underrepresentation of oral studies in the humanities and history in general. He wants to address this underrepresentation through his own analysis of the electronic age, and how it goes back to oral traditions of earlier times. McLuhan demonstrates that history is incomplete when it does not provide enough space for the d escription and analysis of oral societies and practices. Aside from filling the gap of literature on oral practices, McLuhan (1995) supports the idea that oral societies have a richer connection with all of their senses, while the written text has produced a limited visual society because it suppresses auditory functions. He highlights literature that explores the vitality of oral practices, where oral societies are rich civilisations, perhaps even richer than writing

Huck Finn in Education Essay Example for Free
Huck Finn in Education Essay For education to serve its purpose of helping students develop an understanding of themselves and the world around them, it must provide uncensored information and ideas. Mark Twainââ¬â¢s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn undoubtedly supports that goal of education. The classic novel discusses issues regarding societyââ¬â¢s greed and cowardice through a young boyââ¬â¢s, Huck Finn, perspective. Huck Finn is born into the American, white south during the mid 1800s when slavery and racism towards blacks was the norm. He is influenced by his surroundings to believe that slavery is right. The ââ¬Å"civilizedâ⬠adults dictate to him the nature of blacks as property. However, as a rebellious adolescent, Huck runs away from his home and journeys down the Mississippi river with a black slave named Jim. Across this adventure, Huck develops a different set of morals from his culture and slowly comes to view Jim as a person and a friend. Americaââ¬â¢s past white, southern culture is a testament to the gruesome reality of societyââ¬â¢s ability to institutionalize its selfish nature. Mark Twain emphasizes in a genuine manner the ignorance of Americaââ¬â¢s slave-holding past and the importance of questioning the morals of society and as such, the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is worthy of belonging in compulsory education. Unlike many other novels, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn delivers an unromanticized depiction of the racist, white south and slavery in the early part of American history. As seen through his characters, Mark Twain is not afraid to show the true nature of racism present in the 1800s. One of the most unsympathetic characters in the book is Pap, Huck Finnââ¬â¢s drunkard and abusive father. Papââ¬â¢s dialogue contains the image of the thoughts of the average racist southern man in America during that era. In one instance, Pap says: Oh, yes, this is a wonderful govment, wonderful. Why, looky here. There was a free nigger there from Ohio ââ¬â a mulatter, most as white as a white man. He had the whitest shirt on you ever see, too, and the shiniest hat; and there aint a man in that town thats got as fine clothes as what he had; and he had a gold watch and chain, and a silver-headed cane ââ¬â the awful- est old gray-headed nabob in the State. And what do you think? They said he was a pfessor in a college, and could talk all kinds of languages, and knowed everything. And that aint the wust. They said he could VOTE when he was at home. Well, that let me out. Thinks I, what is the country a-coming to?â⬠(35) Papââ¬â¢s words clearly show the hatred he has towards blacks and his belief of white supremacy. He finds the idea of a black man, even a half black man, having the right to vote, a stable job, and an education, absolutely repulsive. This prejudicial perspective of Africa Americans was as common as the modern belief that slavery is wrong. In fact, though slavery in the United States was abolished after the Civil War, the intrinsic racism in America would not be truly called to question until the mid to late 1900s, more than a century later. The inability of white Americans to come to terms with black rights is a portrayal of the wrongs of society. Society is not perfect and young members of society should understand that in order to later on change society for the better. Education in America should provide insight to the hardships of African Americans, and the struggle of Jim living in a society filled with minds like Pap exemplifies the struggle and history of Black Americans. Furthermore, in Papââ¬â¢s statement is the word ââ¬Å"niggerâ⬠. Throughout the entire novel, Mark Twain controversially used the derogatory term over 200 times. Many feel that the use of ââ¬Å"niggerâ⬠causes the book to be unacceptable in compulsory education. However, a more accurate view would be that the word ââ¬Å"niggerâ⬠is not used in the novel for the purpose of demeaning blacks; rather the word is used to make the story accurate to the time. Words get their meaning from the intent of the speaker. Twainââ¬â¢s intent was not for the word to criticize blacks as it is well known that Mark Twain was an advocate against slavery and racism. He used the word because back in the 1800s, the normal word for slaves was ââ¬Å"niggerâ⬠. By using the word, Twain painted a realistic picture of the southern culture of America. Although other books exist that discuss the nature of slavery without the term, for example, Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin, books like Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin are not as effective of delivering a view of the past. In Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin, the slave Uncle Tom is unrealistic for a slave of the time period. He speaks in an educated manner, and his obsession with religion turns him into an allegorical religious figure. Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s characterization takes away from the true battle of slavery in the south. On the other hand, Jim in Huck Finn is characterized more realistically. He speaks in a lower class way, and his journey with Huck for freedom depicts slavery and racism in that era. The book does not hide the sad truth of bigotry and the dehumanization of African Americans. Instead the book highlights it and educates students the history of American slavery. Moreover, the character of Huck Finn goes through a journey that expresses the important idea of an individual going against societyââ¬â¢s rules to act on an unhindered set of morals in order to do what is right and good. Young teens often end up conforming to society in order to fit in. This conformity creates a loss of new and innovative ideas. Twain poses an important lesson of individuality and questioning society. Huck Finn is a boy living in a world where all his adult guides would tell him that befriending a black man and helping free a slave would be completely immoral. Born in such a culture, Huck accepts the view as the truth. Black people are bad. His conformity can be seen when he says: ââ¬Å"Conscience says to me What had poor Miss Watson done to you, that you could see her nigger go off right under your eyes and never say one single word? What did that poor old woman do to you, that you could treat her so mean? I got to feeling so mean and so miserable I most wished I was dead (91). Instead of pitying Jimââ¬â¢s status as a slave, Huck pities Miss Watson for losing a slave. This illustrates slaveryââ¬â¢s prominence and integration into society, along with Huckââ¬â¢s own ignorance and inability to shake off societyââ¬â¢s influence. Societyââ¬â¢s strong grasp on Huck is similar to modern pop cultureââ¬â¢s grasp on teens. Every day, the media bombards the youth of America images of what is right and wrong. Sometimes society gives off the wrong message. For example, the attitude towards rape in America is society being wrong and the youth following the rape culture without questioning. Students should learn from this novel to stand up for their conscience as Huck does as the story progresses. Through involvement with Jim, Huck discovers Jimââ¬â¢s humanity. This discovery of blacks being human just like whites leads Huck to a higher moral understanding. Huck writes: ââ¬Å"It was a close place. I took . . . up [the letter Iââ¬â¢d written to Miss Watson], and held it in my hand. I was a-trembling, because Iââ¬â¢d got to decide, forever, betwixt two things, and I knowed it. I studied a minute, sort of holding my breath, and then says to myself: ââ¬Å"All right then, Iââ¬â¢ll go to hellâ⬠ââ¬âand tore it up. It was awful thoughts and awful words, but they was said. And I let them stay said; and never thought no more about reformingâ⬠(207). When Huck tears the letter up, he is actively going against society and the white southern culture. This change is a depiction of not only the message of fighting societyââ¬â¢s corruption, but also of Twain writing his opposition to slavery and racism. He calls out from his narrative for people to strip away their cultural influences. The influence of society can be harmful and slavery is a prime example. The whole of the south fought to uphold slavery, when today, the thought of legal slavery in the US is unthinkable. Mark Twainââ¬â¢s novel educates people to stand up for freedom from societal influences. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a classic American piece of literature that should be part of compulsory education. The book contains a strong message and a realistic portrait of the time era. Mark Twain does not cover up information. He narrates it in a compelling story. Students learn from this novel the flaws of society and the importance of questioning ideas through a young boy and slavesââ¬â¢ adventure away from slavery and societal rules.
